Promoting Local Stores Through a Social Platform

"ZoomIn" is a conceptual social app to review and showcase local stores.

Project Brief

Design and code a responsive web design intended for mobile, tablet, and desktop. Chosen website topic is based is a social & travel app.

My Role

Entire project design process, from research to design, testing & coding.

Project Time

7 Weeks for Web Design, 6 Weeks for Coding

Brief Context

Before diving into the project, I'd like to first explain the context around the task.

This project was connected to a research-based assignment called the "Work-Integrated Unit," where I was to explore

an area in central Singapore and observe its users and environment, designing an inspired website based on it.

The end result was a website for a social and travel app, with the intent of showcasing the company values & some of it’s

services.

Analysis and Understanding

As a part of the aforementioned "Work-Integrated Unit", I was able to pass through and analyse Bras Basah Complex and interview some of its patrons.

Below is an abridged quote from an interview I had with a Bras Basah Complex storeowner.

User Flow

While a full website might have a more complex user flow, I was only required to design this simple flow for the assignment.

Conclusion

With dedicated communities on platforms like Instagram and Tiktok of people who are interested in discovering trendy

and hidden local spots, there may be a space in the market for an app like ZoomIn.

While I’m happy with what I’ve developed so far, I recognize there’s still room for improvement. Adding elements such as

illustrations or mascots could make the app feel more friendly and inviting, especially for younger users, as well as a

general development of it's features and flow.

In the end, I believe ZoomIn has strong potential to spotlight local gems and make them more engaging. With the right

enhancements, it can truly thrive in this space.

If there was more time…

  • Conduct more user interviews to refine user personas and identify additional features or needs.

  • Replace certain static images with custom illustrations to create a more vibrant and youth-friendly experience.

  • Explore gamification features like badges, points, or location-based challenges to boost engagement and repeat usage.
